Placeholders are temporary designs or media that take the place of certain assets before they are replaced by the final versions. Placeholders are commonly used throughout the development of Baldi's Basics Plus.
List[]
Baldi's Math Machine[]

Render of the placeholder design of Baldi's Math Machine.
The placeholder design of Baldi's Math Machine was used prior to Baldi's Basics Plus V0.2 and it was completely different. It was a gray cube-shaped machine with text saying "The Math Machine", displaying a math problem in the center, and the bottom of the machine says "(Design not yet final)".
Prior to V0.3.3, the placeholder textures were still used in premade levels.
Elevator[]

The placeholder design for the elevator's interior.
Prior to Baldi's Basics Plus V0.2, the room was gray and yellowish, there were only two cogs on the left, the door was lime-green, and it had "ELEVATE" text with nothing next to them. There was no "POWER" text above "TUBES", the pipes had multi-colored squares on them, and the siren horns inside of the alarms were either lacking or unable to be seen. The inside of the elevator when the player is out of it consisted of wooden textures. Also, the "Current Grade" and "Time" results were placeholders before that update and the "YTPs Earned" and "Total YTPs" results were placeholders in Baldi's Basics Kickstarter Exclusive Demo before V1.2.

Faculty room[]

The placeholder appearance of the faculty room in Development Build.
In Development Build, all faculty rooms lacked items and furniture and used the placeholder door as an entrance, similar to the debug room. However, the floor, walls, and ceiling of each faculty room were completely filled with the wood texture that was later used for the inside of the elevator that is seen when the player is out of it, prior to Baldi's Basics Plus V0.2 in randomly generated levels and V0.3.3 in pre-generated levels.
Item[]
The placeholder of the Nothing item was the word "Item" written diagonally in a messy font. It was first used in the Development Build. In the game, the placeholder was used as a test for proper items. It was also used for empty slots in the player's inventory, but only in Full Game Early Demo.
In Baldi's Basics Classic, when using hacks to see the UI in the alternate ending and get some items, certain items will have the placeholder item instead of the item's image.
Level generator[]
The green wall placeholder texture, the red floor placeholder texture, the blue ceiling placeholder texture, the "PlaceFace
" character placeholder texture, and the placeholder door texture are used by the level generator when generating a level prior to replacing them with the actual textures. These were first used in the Development Build. These textures are later present in debug rooms, which are rare, and Gotta Sweep's closet prior to Baldi's Basics Plus V0.2. In the current version, the placeholder tile textures are now used as a placeholder skybox in the level generator and main menu.
Map[]

In V0.8 Pre-release 1, the advanced map had a placeholder design, with a solid green bar covering the right side of the map and with no split sections for map markers or the timer. The buttons for moving the map and zooming in and out were also placeholders.
Font[]
The placeholder font was generally Arial instead of Comic Sans.
