The lighting system is a tile-based shadow and light system first introduced on floor 2 in Baldi's Basics Plus.

Description[]

Lighting

The lighting system as seen from the early access trailer.

The main purpose of the lighting system is to give the Super Schoolhouse shading by creating shadows, and dark rooms or hallways. It uses tiles as the main method of illuminating, light sources include ceiling tile lights (in hallways) and lamps (in rooms). The further a tile is from a light source, the darker the tile is. The light sources can be indicated with the light texture on the ceilings.

One of the main uses for the lighting system is the light flickering effect by The Test, in which the lighting ambience is turned down and the overall tile brightness from the light system is globally lowered.

The Test in the hallway

Since Baldi's Basics Plus V0.3.5, when the lighting gets darker, the contrast of textures and sprites is increased. This is especially notable for white brick walls.[1]

The lighting system is also used in Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered, especially notable when playing the game with Lights Out Fun Setting.

Some textures use a light guide to make them brighter in dark areas. This was implemented in Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered first, then V0.3.8 of Baldi's Basics Plus.

During the Lights Out event in Baldi's Basics Plus, the hallways slowly become darker, and Principal of The Thing turns off the lights of every room he leaves. However, the player is able to hide in dark spots once the lights are gone in the area.

Trivia[]

General[]

Baldi's Basics Plus[]

  • NPCs are also affected by lighting. Depending on which tile they are in, the character will reflect that light level for their sprite.
  • Lighting Plus V0.7.1

The lighting system prior to V0.8. The dark tiles would be further away from the tile with the light textures, as these textures were the light sources.

Prior to V0.8, each floor had different lighting setting.

Glitches[]

Baldi's Basics Plus[]

  • Prior to V0.1.5, starting on floor 2, some items in any location appeared to be darker for no reason due to this system.
