The Portal Poster is an inventory item in Baldi's Basics Plus and Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered's Demo Style.

Description[]

The Portal Poster's sprite is a white paper sheet with a portal in blurred purple, pink, and orange colors. For some reason, it has a much lower quality than the other items' sprites, possibly due to its size.

Usage[]

Portal Poster in-game

The Portal Poster when used in-game.

Using this item on any wall will cause a large poster to appear on that wall, with a transparent portal in the middle. All characters can walk through the Portal Poster and NPCs can see the player through it, basically acting like an alternative passage. Projectiles like the BSODA spray and Beans' bubble gum can also pass through it, too. This can be used as a way to exit the Principal's office during detention or escaping Mrs. Pomp's classroom while she traps the player for being late at her class. The Portal Poster will stay on the wall for the rest of the level, and can be walked through an infinite amount of times.

However, the item cannot be used on walls with no tile on the back. Doing so will make an error sound and if captions are on, then they will read "Not here.". The Portal Poster also cannot be placed on a wall with Chalkles, a plant, or lockers on the other side, and it cannot be used to enter the mystery room.

Other appearances[]

Last bonus question

Portal Poster from Baldi's Math Machine after solving the last bonus question.

  • In Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered, the Portal Poster will appear after answering all six bonus questions in Baldi's Math Machines in Demo Style. The player can find a ladder connected to Baldi's Basement by placing the Portal Poster next to the poster about Safety Scissors in the "English" classroom (the one with the hangman chalkboard). Alternatively, this can be used in the hallway next to the BSODA machine to find a "NonCanonConnor" room, or in the right wall in the classroom with a "EVERYONE GETS DETENTION!!! I QUIT" chalkboard or the left wall of the faculty room that contains lockers to find the room with Bladder.

Trivia[]

  • The item's usage was first briefly teased from the Baldi's Basics Plus early access trailer,[1] and its usage was later teased on Twitter.[2]
  • The sound made when placing the Portal Poster is taken from Warner Bros..
  • Stated by its description in Johnny's Store, this item was invented by Baldi himself.
  • Unlike other items, the Portal Poster uses the Larger suffix instead of Large for the large icon's file name.
    • The Portal Poster has its own custom small icon, along with the Alarm Clock and BSODA.
  • Prior to V0.3.3, NPCs were not able to go through Portal Posters in normal circumstances.
    • However, there was a chance that they could go through the portal. It happened when there is furniture nearby, Gotta Sweep sweeps other characters or when a character gets pushed through by a BSODA spray. Arts and Crafters could charge at the player through the portal if he is fast enough.
    • The developer's intention for Portal Poster is simply making a new path for all characters. However, NPCs were unable to pass through it because of the limitations of the old navigation system.[3]
  • Placing a Portal Poster next to a swinging door makes it disappear.
  • Prior to V0.3.5, the Portal Poster could be used on windows.
  • Prior to V0.4, the Portal Poster could not be placed on walls where conveyor belts were placed on same tiles. It also could not be used on walls with lockers, regardless of the direction.

Glitches[]

Baldi's Basics Plus[]

  • Prior to V0.1.3, the player could use a Portal Poster behind water fountains and vending machines.
  • The player could also use a Portal Poster on Chalkles. However, the portal could be only entered from one side where there was no Chalkles. This glitch was once fixed in V0.1.3, but it happened again from V0.3 to V0.3.4 when the Portal Poster was placed on the wall first, then Chalkles spawned in that wall when the player was in other locations after Baldi finished the countdown.
  • PortalButNotPoster

The Portal Poster without the full texture.

In V0.1.5, the full item texture of the Portal Poster wouldn't appear on a wall due to a mask bug.
  • Incorrect caption position for the Portal Poster
Prior to V0.4, the sound of this item was always playing from the position (0,0,0). Therefore, the caption would be featured in the incorrect location. Since this version, the caption is always featured at the bottom of the screen.
  • Principal passes through the window
From V0.3.5 to V0.3.8, if the Portal Poster was placed on a wall next to the window, NPCs might pass through the window, even if it was not broken.

Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered[]

  • Certain walls in the Schoolhouse cannot have a Portal Poster placed on them, even though they should.
  • BBCROversight

The Portal Poster being used behind lockers in Classic Remastered.

Some walls in the Schoolhouse allow the player to put a poster behind lockers, revealing their hollow insides.
