Characters are the NPCs and the player character in the Baldi's Basics series, which can be either students, school faculty, or other entities in the Schoolhouse or Super Schoolhouse alike. While almost all of the characters are obstacles to hinder the player's progression, Baldi is the only hostile character who possesses the ability to end the game by catching the player themselves in the whole series.

Description[]

Thank You!

The original cast of characters from left to right: Arts and Crafters, Playtime, 1st Prize, Baldi, It's a Bully, Principal of the Thing, Gotta Sweep, and Cloudy Copter.

All of the non-player characters are designed as 2D sprites (non-Plus), similar to the items and environment objects. For the game's weird, bizarre purpose, the characters lack stylistic unity. The characters' sprites consist of CGI models, flash animation, 2D drawings, and realistic photography. To fit the game's nostalgic themes, most of them are applied with a dithering effect and a lot of size reduction.

Other characters[]

There are several characters that have only been mentioned, only appear in the comics, or have been scrapped from the games. Here is a list of them:

Trivia[]

General[]

  • The idea of characters appearing as 3D models, drawings, or photo-cropped may be based on the Cartoon Network animation series The Amazing World of Gumball where it also has a lack of stylistic unity on characters.
  • All 3D-model characters (Baldi, It's a Bully, 1st Prize, Mrs. Pomp, The Test, PlaceFace and Cloudy Copter) are made in a 1999 3D-modeling and animation program called Anim8or.
  • All 2D-drawn characters are made in GIMP (Chalkles and Johnny), Paint.NET (Beans), and Microsoft Paint (Playtime).
  • Dr. Reflex is the only character that is made with claymation.
  • Principal of the Thing is the only character who's sprite has been seen undithered, including in a prototype of the character or small portion of a character.
    • Interestingly, none of his merchandising includes an undithered Principal of the Thing.
  • Out of all the characters in the series, only four have appeared in every single game/demo. Those four characters are Baldi, Principal of the Thing, It's a Bully and the player.
  • Almost all of the Schoolhouse characters have a name that directly refers to what they do or what they look like.
    • Baldi - He is a bald teacher.
    • Principal of the Thing - He is the school principal.
    • Playtime - She makes the player play a mini-game when they encounter her.
    • It's a Bully - He is a bully.
    • Arts and Crafters - He looks like a sock puppet that a kid would make in an arts and crafts class.
    • Gotta Sweep - He is a broom that sweeps a lot.
    • 1st Prize - He is the science project that won first prize.
    • Cloudy Copter - He is a cloud that looks similiar to a helicopter.
    • Chalkles - His name is likely a pun by the two words "chalk" and "chuckles", due the fact he is made of chalk and also for his laughter.
    • Mrs. Pomp - She has blonde pompadour hair at the very top of her head.
    • Dr. Reflex - He is a doctor who tests other people's reflexes.
    • The only Schoolhouse characters who do not follow this are The Test and Beans.
  • Almost all NPCs cannot see through windows. There is a poster in the Schoolhouse that explains this. However, the player can see them through windows.
Note: The following content may have spoilers for the deep lore.

    • Null and the red Baldloon are the only characters who can see the player through windows, and they possess the ability to break through the windows to create a shortcut to the player.

  • Baldi and angry Dr. Reflex can focus on sound. However, Dr. Reflex does not use an indicator.
Note: The following content may have spoilers for the deep lore.

    • Null and the red Baldloon can also focus on sound.

Baldi's Basics Plus[]

  • Sometimes, NPCs can enter a room without opening a standard door or pass through the swinging door. This is especially common when they are faster than the player's running speed.
  • Since V0.3, all characters are faster than in prior versions because the aforementioned version increases the overall speed of the game.
  • Since V0.4, the entity system has been changed. As a result, the characters can interact with the balloons and the merry-go-rounds.
  • Since V0.6, all characters cannot see behind the dust clouds created by the Dirty Chalk Eraser.
  • Since V0.8, NPCs will not be able to see the player in the dark.
  • The Test and Principal of the Thing are the only characters that affect the lighting.
Note: The following content may have spoilers for the deep lore.

    • Null and the red Baldloon can also affect the lighting.

  • Chalkles is the only character who sees through the dust clouds.
  • Mrs. Pomp is the only character can stop the game environment.
