WARNING! In case you haven't figured it out yet, this game is intended to be a horror game. As such, it has loud noises, flashing images, and is overall pretty spooky. (Well, at least it's supposed to be...) If you downloaded this thinking it would be great edutainment for your kid or something, don't let them play it! Unless, of course, they enjoy horror games. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED (press any key to continue)
— The warning upon starting the game.
The Game Jam Edition of Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning (also known as Baldi's Basics Classic) is the original shorter version of the game that was first released on Itch.io in March 31, 2018, by mystman12. The Game Jolt version was released on May 27, 2018. Although it was partly but not completely a full game, it is available on Itch.io and Game jolt for free as a similar type of "demo", only consisting of 8 characters, 10 items, and only one subject (math) in the non-randomly generated school with no other big amount of features.
Soon after V1.3 was released, on July 24, 2018, a Kickstarter was launched, made to have Baldi's Basics be a full game with new characters, randomly generated maps, new subjects, and field trips. The Kickstarter successfully reached his goal with $61,375 pledged out of $50,000.

This game doesn't just teach education, it also teaches FUN!
This game is not what it seems...
Inspired by creepy/bad edutainment games from the 90s, (Sonic's Schoolhouse, I.M. Meen, 3D Dinosaur Adventure: Save the Dinosaurs), Baldi's Basics is a meta horror game that's really weird, with no real educational value to be found. Collect all 7 of the notebooks and escape the school, all while avoiding Baldi. Baldi has many friends in the school that will slow down your progress and put you at risk of being caught, so learn how each character works and how you can avoid their attention. Find and use items to your advantage. Oh, and finally, try not to get the quiz answers wrong... Each wrong answer makes Baldi angrier...
At the start of the game, the teacher Baldi appears, greeting and waving to the Player. As the Player goes on to collect the first notebook they will be greeted by the You Can Think Pad showing a set of three math problems, presented by Baldi. In the first round of the math problems, everything is normal. However when the Player activates the second notebook, the third and final question is replaced by an unintelligible string of numbers, and Baldi's reading will become glitched and distorted. This question has no correct answer and replaces all final questions from the second notebook onward.
Upon getting the question wrong, Baldi will start to chase the Player, his speed being determined by slapping sounds from his ruler hitting his hand. The more questions the Player answers incorrectly, the faster Baldi will chase them. It is at this point in the game that the characters will begin appearing.
Once all seven notebooks are collected, Baldi's voice will congratulate the Player before he screams, "GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!", followed by a laugh. Baldi will now be moving at his fastest as there are no more notebooks, thus no more questions to get wrong. Now the Player must find four exits in any order. Three of these are fake, while only one is real. Once the Player finds one of the exits, everything will become red and the doorway will become a solid wall. The Player must activate three out of four doors before they can finally leave out of the fourth.
This game was an entry in the annual Meta-Game Jam, that received 2nd place in the Meta-Game Jam's Top 5 Games, with Farfalle OS in 1st. It has been getting high critical praise from its fans, developing a large fandom. The game receives over 1 million downloads. The game inspired aspiring developers to create mods (Garfielf's Guide to a Great Lasagna, Billy's Basics Educational Game, Cutman's Clues in Boo Boo Stuff, etc) and even lead the creation of games taking inspiration of Baldi's Basics, such as Advanced Education With Viktor Strobovski and Baldina's Basis in Education Literary Grammar.
The Principal is slightly less sensitive about seeing the player in faculty only rooms, eating, and drinking.
Made the phone and tape player more effective. Now only make noise instead of the voice clips, make Baldi forget where the last sound he heard was, and prevent him from hearing more sounds for the duration of the audio.
Baldi's speed now increases along a curve; the first-speed increase is greater than it used to be, but each subsequent increase is less than the last. Ultimately, Baldi becomes more threatening more quickly, but his max speed is lower than before.
Lowered Baldi's audio quality
Running out of stamina now no longer slows you down. It simply keeps you from running.
Slowed Playtime down, and she now emits music so you can know when she's nearby.
Added hot-keys for item selection. 1-3 allows you to quickly select their corresponding item slots.
This is the seventh version of the game and it was released in June 2, 2018. First off, 1.3.1 does not fix the mouse issue; that seems like an issue I have no control over. I'll keep looking for a solution, but I'm starting to think I just have to wait for a Unity update that fixes the problem. I've included a .txt file with information about the mouse issue and how to prevent it. I released this update because there were some other issues that I was able to fix, and I wanted to get those fixes out there! The changes are listed below:
Fixed bug involving the alternate ending.
Made Notebook respawn sounds louder.
Playtime now only wanders the halls; she will only enter a room if she sees you, not randomly.
Added a poster to the janitor's closet. (it explains to the player what WD-NoSquee does).
This is the eighth version of the game and it was released in June 4, 2018.
Fixed the mouse issue!
Added a new custom cursor.
It's a Bully is now easier to be caught Bullying by the Principal.
Gave Baldi a tiny speed boost.
Fixed Principal punishing you for running when getting pushed by 1st Prize or Gotta Sweep while holding the run button.
Added a couple more yellow doors.
Baldi now hears exits when they disappear.
Made Baldi speed up more slowly in endless mode.
This is the ninth version of the game and it was released in November 21, 2018.
Added occlusion culling, which greatly improves performance.
Added controller support.
Fixed bug where you would start in the air when jump roping for second and all subsequent times.
Fixed mouse movement being detected while paused or while in a YCTP.
Greatly improved player movement. Whereas before you could easily get hung up on level geometry, now you'll smoothly slide alongside it!
Added a num-pad to the YCTP for easy touch screen input.
Fixed blurry "Dab" chalkboard and comic walls.
Rebuilt menu system, now with proper screens for story, credits, and options.
Added custom control mapping.
Changed one of the extra red notebooks to the missing yellow notebook.
Fixed a bug where the Principal of the Thing sometimes wouldn't send It's A Bully to detention.
Fixed a texture bug where the walls next to doors appeared squished.
The world no longer renders when in a YCTP resulting in better performance while solving problems.
Added texture to desks.
Fixed bug which caused Baldi to ignore detention after getting all three problems in the YCTP wrong.
Slightly improved NPC navigation. Should perform better on lower spec PCs.
Fixed Baldi failing to lip-sync properly when starting a game.
Lots of other small tweaks and improvements.
This is the tenth version of the game and it was released in January 4, 2019.
Re-added missing phone poster.
Fixed bug that could cause you to get stuck between a wall and a desk.
Fixed bug that made the lock not work on the first three yellow doors.
Back button on play menu is now selectable with a controller.
Updated Gotta Sweep's poster.
Re-added Baldi's instructional audio.
Made further optimizations.
Improved play menu.
Added a loading screen.
Other minor stuffs.
This is the eleventh version of the game and it was released in January 5, 2019.
Fixed bug that prevented you from using WD-NoSquee on the center door in the east hallway.
Corrected build settings to support 32-bit operating systems on Windows (Hopefully - I have no 32-bit PCs to test on). The I accidentalyy used the wrong settings when releasing 1.4.1 initially.
This update is only for Linux version, released on January 9, 2019.
Fixed the issues with the previous versions where the screen was only showing a solid color.
This update is only for Android version, released on February 1, 2019.
There is an occasional glitch where Baldi can trap the Player in a corner of a classroom where he can't catch them. However, when the Player moves a single step, Baldi will catch them instantly and the game would take the Player back to the start.
The Player can avoid getting a game over no matter how close he gets to them by looking down at the corner of the room. (May not always work, but most of the time it should go well.)
Getting enough questions wrong will cause Baldi to chase you at such fast speeds that the sound of the ruler slapping gets glitched.
